Dr. Stephanie Rose Yan is blessed to have a great partnership with her husband Lee and two kids, Rain and Roam. Lee is a sustainably minded landscape architect with Degrees in Landscape Architecture, and Agro-ecology. His Bachelors work involved applied research in tropical horticulture, ethnobotany, and sustainable agriculture. Lee also fell in love with Hawaii in his college days when he attended a year exchange to the University of Hawaii, Hilo where he took coursework in aquaculture, fruit and vegetable production, farm management, beekeeping, tissue culture, cultural anthropology, and ecology. He also managed the University’s macadamia orchard at the College of Agriculture’s Experiment Station. Aside from his food security interests, Lee is also very committed to dealing with issues relating to ocean plastic pollution, bioregional planning and fostering a rich home environment for Rain and Roam. In his spare time, he surfs, snorkels, hikes, runs, swims, and enjoys gardening. Roam, loves math and science, playing video games, cooking for the family, playing tennis, and swimming in the ocean. Their daughter, Rain, loves to do art, sing, vlog, learn about bugs, and the human body. Like a typical Filipino-American family, they lived with their extended family during Dr. Yan’s general surgery training in Southern California. They love to be around friends and family where there’s no need to notify each other before visiting and staying over. They moved to Honolulu in June 2017 for Dr. Yan’s fellowship at the University of Hawaii. They are very excited to finally have a home-base in Maui and will continue their life’s work in community building and development, sustainable agriculture, food security, ocean advocacy, population health and applied science and medicine.
